Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General

What is Soorse?

Soorse is a professional networking platform built around trusted Groups. Instead of cold connections or open social feeds, Soorse helps people connect through verified organizations, clubs, nonprofits, alumni groups, teams, and professional associations they already belong to.

How is Soorse different from LinkedIn or social media?

Soorse is group-first, not feed-first. Discovery is driven by shared affiliations, not algorithms. Profiles are contextual, access is intentional, and engagement is tied to real organizations and real communities.

Who is Soorse for?

Soorse is designed for:

  • Professionals and community members
  • Nonprofits and foundations
  • Alumni associations, schools, clubs, and teams
  • Group leaders seeking engagement, visibility, and sustainable funding

For Members

Is Soorse free to use?

Yes. Soorse is free to use.

A paid subscription is only required if you want:

  • Membership in more than 5 Groups, and/or
  • The ability to message people who are not your direct Soorses (connections)

All other core features remain available on the free tier.

What privacy controls do I have?

You can control your profile visibility at any time:

  • Public: Your profile is searchable by anyone using the Soorse landing page or main search bar.
  • Private: Your profile is discoverable only by members of Groups you belong to.

This gives you full control over how broadly you want to be discovered.

What do I get with a paid membership?

A paid membership expands your access on Soorse and allows you to play a more active role in supporting your Groups.

With a paid membership, you can:

  • Join more than 5 Groups and expand your network
  • Message members outside of your direct Soorses (connections)
  • Increase visibility and access across your Groups
  • Directly support verified nonprofit Groups through revenue sharing

Your subscription doesn't just unlock features — it also contributes to the organizations you're part of. Through your activity, you help drive ongoing support to the Groups you care about.

How does my subscription support my Groups?

When you subscribe, a portion of your monthly fee is shared with the nonprofit Groups you actively participate in, helping provide ongoing support driven by engagement.

Can I see how much I've contributed?

Yes.

You can view your contributions at any time by selecting "View Contribution Dashboard" at the top of the Groups page.

From there, you'll be able to see:

  • Total amount contributed to verified 501(c)(3) nonprofits
  • Monthly contribution activity and trends over time
  • Active nonprofits you are supporting
  • Number of Groups supported
  • Breakdown by Group, including which organizations you contribute to most

The dashboard also includes a visual Impact Over Time graph, allowing you to track your ongoing support and engagement.

For Groups & Group Admins

What is a Group on Soorse?

A Group represents a real organization — such as a nonprofit, school, alumni association, club, foundation, or professional organization — with designated administrators and members.

Who can create a Group?

Any individual may create a Group provided the Group and its activities are lawful in the applicable jurisdiction and comply with Soorse's Terms & Conditions. Certain features require additional verification.

What tools do Group Admins get?

Group Admins can:

  • Manage members and invitations
  • Publish announcements and content
  • Promote events
  • Add events to the Group calendar
  • Enable monetization (where eligible)
  • View engagement insights (dashboards under construction)

How does monetization work?

Monetization on Soorse is available only to verified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

Eligible Groups can generate revenue in three ways:

Member Subscriptions

  • A portion of member subscription revenue is shared with nonprofit Groups based on engagement and participation.

Donations

  • Groups can accept direct donations through a Donate button.
  • The Group receives 100% of the donation amount
  • Only standard transaction processing fees apply

Job Postings

  • Members and businesses can post job opportunities within Groups.
  • Nonprofit Groups receive 25% of job posting revenue tied to their audience

Only verified 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible to receive revenue share from subscriptions and job postings.

Is monetization required?

No. Groups may exist purely for communication, visibility, and engagement without monetization.

Nonprofits & Foundations

How does Soorse verify nonprofits?

Nonprofits undergo verification using EIN checks and payment-processor validation before monetization is enabled.

Is Soorse a donation platform?

Yes. Soorse supports direct donations to eligible nonprofit Groups.

As is standard practice, transaction processing fees are typically paid by the donor, with the full net donation amount passed through to the nonprofit.

Soorse does not take a platform fee on donations.

Can nonprofits track contributions?

Yes.

Verified 501(c)(3) nonprofit Groups with Stripe integration can access a Contribution Dashboard to track funds and engagement in real time.

From the dashboard, Admins can view:

  • Total funds received from subscriptions, donations, and job postings
  • Monthly contribution trends and growth over time
  • Average monthly contributions and highest-performing periods
  • Source of funds breakdown (Soorse Plus, Donations, Job Postings)
  • Contributor insights, including top contributors and contribution history

This provides full visibility into how your Group is generating support and which members are driving impact.

Events, Calendar & Engagement

How do Group Admins create events?

Group Admins can create and manage events directly within Soorse.

Events can be created in two ways:

Create Manually

  • Admins can enter event details directly in Soorse, including name, date, location, and visibility (public or private).

Import from Event Platforms

Admins can also import events from supported platforms, including:

  • Eventbrite (via URL)
  • Givebutter
  • ChamberMaster (API)
  • OneCause (API)
  • Google Calendar (sync)

These integrations allow you to connect your organization's existing event platform to Soorse and:

  • Import events as a one-time action, or
  • Sync events for ongoing or recurring updates

This ensures your events automatically populate in Soorse while continuing to be managed in your primary event system.

Can Groups host events on Soorse?

Groups use Soorse to create, manage, and promote events, while continuing to host them through their preferred event platforms if needed.

Events can be:

  • Created directly in Soorse, or
  • Imported and synced from external platforms (e.g., Eventbrite, Givebutter, ChamberMaster, OneCause, Google Calendar)

Once added, events are:

  • Displayed on the Group page
  • Included in the Calendar section, where members can view all their Group events in one place
  • Surfaced across the platform through Home and Social activity

Soorse acts as a centralized layer for event visibility, discovery, and member engagement, regardless of where the event is hosted.

How do members discover events?

Members can discover events across Soorse through a connected, multi-surface experience:

Home Page

  • Events are surfaced alongside activity from your Groups, making it easy to see what's happening in real time.

Calendar Section

  • A dedicated Calendar allows members to view all events across all of their Groups in one place, with the ability to filter by specific Groups.

Group Pages

  • Each Group displays its own upcoming events.

Social Activity

  • Events gain visibility as members engage — when others mark "Interested" or "Attending," those actions surface across the network.

Event Engagement Summaries

Within the Calendar, members can quickly navigate:

  • Attending Events
  • Interested Events
  • Attended Events

This structure ensures events are discoverable whether you're browsing, planning ahead, or following activity within your network.

How do members interact with events?

Members can engage with events in multiple ways directly within Soorse:

  • Attend — Mark yourself as attending an event.
  • Interested — Show interest without committing to attendance.
  • Not Attending (when applicable) — Indicate you are not attending.
  • Register via External Link — For events hosted on platforms like Eventbrite or Givebutter, members can register directly through the provided link.
  • View Event Details — Access full event information including time, location, description, and instructions.

These interactions help:

  • Signal participation to other members
  • Surface events in the Social section
  • Increase visibility and engagement within Groups

Additionally, within the Calendar section, members can track their activity through summarized views, including:

  • Attending Events
  • Interested Events
  • Attended Events

This provides a centralized view of your past, current, and upcoming event engagement across all your Groups.
